Tony Hillerman’s Landscape---in Words and Photographs
This hour-long presentation includes photos and commentary that expand on the information included in the book, offering the audience additional appreciation for the author and his timeless work.
We are offering this presentation free of charge to museums,
literary groups, libraries and entities working with Native Americans.
Compiled by Anne Hillerman with original photos by Don Strel based on their book, Tony Hillerman’s Landscape: On the Road with Chee and Leaphorn, the presentation is a timely journey through the hauntingly beautiful country that dominates Hillerman’s award winning mysteries.
The illustrated lecture takes the audience behinds the scenes to the country Hillerman used to frame his best-selling Jim Chee/ Joe Leaphorn mysteries. Using photos of mountains, mesas, deserts, trading posts and other sites of Indian Country, Tony Hillerman’s Landscape is a visual feast. The narrative that links the images describes the landscape in Hillerman’s own words through Chee and Leaphorn’s eyes. Personal insights about the author and the themes within his work from his daughter, Anne, add an insider’s knowledge.
